The Torah was delivered at Mount Sinai in the Jewish year 2448 (counted from creation) (21) or 1313 BC. The Torah was dictated to Moshe by God, letter by letter, word by word. Moshe wrote the Torah in the same way a scribe does today: with pen and ink, on a leather that has the form of a parchment.
The word Torah comes from the Hebrew tohrah, which can be translated "direction", "teaching" or "law" (Proverbs 1: 8, 3: 1, 28: 4). * The following examples show how this Hebrew word is used in the Bible.
Often the word tohráh is used to refer to the first five books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.
