Nevevî’nin yaşadığı dönem olan 7,5 asır öncesi İslam düşmanları dört bir yandan İslam coğrafyasını kuşatmış içte ve dışta pek çok olumsuzluklar meydana gelmeye başlamıştı. Yani haçlı orduları ve Tatar baskınları her tarafı kasıp kavurmaktaydı. Müslümanlardan bir kısmı bugünkü gibi servet ve şehvet peşine düşmüş, farz ve sünnetleri ihmal ederek değişik bir yaşantıya bürünmüş, bir kısmı da zühd hayatına yöneldiklerini söyleyerek dünyada hiç bir sorumlulukları yokmuş gibi dünyadan yüz çevirmişlerdi. Bir üçüncü grup ta değişik bölgelerde İslam düşmanlarına karşı cihad gayreti içindeydi. Nevevî, böyle bir durumda ne yapılması gerektiğini bilerek o günün insanına neyi nasıl sunması gerektiğini kitap ve sünnete sarılmak olarak tesbit etti ve o dönemdeki üç gruba ayrılan insanların hepsini gerçek bir ölçüde birleştirmek istedi, öğrenme ve yaşama yollarını bu kitabıyla ortaya koymuş oldu. Fert, aile ve toplum planında yapılması gerekenleri ayet ve hadislerle tam yerine oturtarak her türlü sapıklık ve bid’atlara düşenlere gerçek islamı göstermeye çalıştı. İfrat ve tefrite düşmeksizin iddiasız ve gösterişsiz bir islami yapılanmanın yol ve yöntemini ana başlıklar alt birimler ayet ve hadislerle bu kitapta ortaya koymuş oldu. Nevevî’nin kulluk ve samimiyetinin bir meyvesi olarak islam dünyasında bu eseri çok büyük kabul görerek hedefine ulaşmış oldu.
18 ana bölüm ve 372 bölümden oluşan eser her müslümanın her yıl bir sefer okuması gerektiğini anımsatmaktadır.
Riyaz-üs Salihîn hakkında; çağdaş alimlerimizden Abdulfettah Ebu Gudde ve Nâsıruddîn el Elbânî ve Şuayb el Arnavut sened yönünden zayıflığı olan bir kaç hadisin olabileceğini, kendi şahsi tetkik ve değerlendirmelerine dayanarak söylerler. Fakat sened yönünden zayıf bulunan bu hadislerin de başka sened ve yollarla takviye edildiğini dile getiren bu alimlerin yanı sıra yedi asırdır hiç bir alim tarafından tenkid edilmediğini ve daima takdir edildiğini de söylemek gerekir.
Tesbit edebildiğimiz kadarıyla bu kitapta tekrar edilen hadis sayısı 260 civarındadır. Yani aynı hadis veya başka bir ravi tarafından rivayet edilen aynı konudaki hadisler bir kaç konuda ilgili olduğu için tekrar edilmiştir ki bu da sayıyı kabartmak için yapılan bir tekrar olmayıp gerekli olduğundan dolayı tekrar edilmiştir.
Bu güne kadar bu esere Arapça şerhler yapılmıştır.

Türkçe’de de bir kaç tercemesi yapılmıştır. Farklı cilt sayısı ve değişik yayınevleri tarafından çeşitli baskıları yapılan eserin faydalarının yanı sıra cild sayısının fazla oluşu dilinin eski oluşu, baskı ve tertip arızaları yönünden pek çok anlaşılmayı güçleştiren durumlarla karşılaşmamız dolayısıyla bu terceme ve tertibe girmiş bulunmaktayız.

Riyaz on-base Saliheen, our contemporary scholars and Nâsıruddîn Gudde Abdulfettah Abu Shu'ayb al Elbânî and weakness of the hands of Albanians in the direction of sanad of the hadith may be a few who, they say, based on their personal inspection and evaluation.
