ترجع تسمية الدعاء بدعاء كميل نسبة الى كميل بن زياد النخعي الذي روي الدعاء عن امير المؤمنين عليه السلام ونذكر هنا قصة الدعاء المشهوره اذ ورد عن كميل بن زياد قوله:كنت جالس مع مولاي امير المؤمنين في مسجد البصره ومعه جماعه من اصحابه فقال بعضهم مامعنى قول الله عزوجل(فيها يفرق كل امر حكيم)سورة الدخان الأيه 4

قال عليه السلام:هذه اليله هي ليلة النصف من شعبان,والذي نفس علي بيده انه مامن عبد الاوجميع مايجري عليه من خير وشر في ليلة النصف من شعبان الى اخر السنه في مثل تلك اليله المقبله.ومامن عبد يحيها ويدعو بدعاء الخضر عليه السلام الا اجيب له.فلما انصرف طرقته ليل فقال عليه السلام:

ماجاء بك ياكميل؟

قلت:ياأمير المؤمنين دعاء الخضر.

فقال:اجلس ياكميل اذا حفظت هذا الدعاء فادعوبه في كل ليلة جمعه,او في الشهر مره,او في السنه مره,اوفي عمرك مره تكف وتنصر,وترزق ولن تعدم المغفره.ياكميل اوجب لك طول الصحبه النجود لك بما سألت.

ثم قالاللهم اني اسألك برحمتك التي وسعت كل شيء..)الى اخر الدعاء

من فوائد دعاء كميل

من المعروف أن قراءة دعاء كميل تجدي في إجابة الدعاء ، و كفاية شر الاعداء و فتح باب الرزق و غفران الذنوب. عن الإمام علي بن أبي طالب (ع) انه قال لكميل ابن زياد : اذا حفظت هذا الدعاء، فادع به كل ليل جمعة، أو في الشهر مرة، أو في السنة مرة، أو في عمرك مرة، تكف، و ترزق، و تنصر، و لن تعدم المغفرة.
