It uses your phone with the built-in camera to track color changes of your fingertip that are directly associated with your pulse, which is the same technique used in medical pulse oximeters.

Put the tip of your index finger on the phone’s camera. Hold it steadily and after a few seconds your HR will be shown.

WARNING:
1) iHeart Rate works only on smart phones with flash lights. It will NOT work properly without lights.
2) During measurement hold your finger steadily and try NOT move. The camera lens shall be wholly covered. Otherwise the measurement accuracy might be compromised.
3) Do NOT measure with cold fingers when the blood circulation is poor, which will also inversely affect the accuracy.
