Note: You can long-press the notification, and choose "minimize", or tap the ( i ) icon, go to "notifications", and disable app notifications.

Unfortunately, Android requires that the app have a persistent notification in order to run in the background, but you can switch off the notification yourself without impacting the app's functionality.

Never miss important notifications because you forgot to re-enable your sound again!

When silencing your phone, Silent Mode Timer will automatically prompt you to select a duration, if you like, after which your sound will be re-enabled.

For example, when entering a movie, you silence your phone; but who even are these highfalutin folk who actually remember to turn their notification sounds back on after the movie? Whoever they are, I'm not one of them.
With Silent Mode Timer, disabling your notification sounds is a temporary affair, for which YOU choose the duration!
When you silence your phone in that movie theater, a dialog will come up, prompting you to choose how long to leave your sound off for. Let's say you choose "2 hours" - a reasonable duration for a movie. After two hours, your sound will automatically be re-enabled, and you won't miss any notifications because you forgot to switch it back on!

Got a quick call with your boss? Silence your phone just like you normally would, and choose "30 minutes" (or whatever is the duration of the meeting) and forget about it.
At the doctor's office? Select an hour.
Gotta keep your ringer off during the work-day? Tap "8 hours".
Need to silence your phone for some awkwardly specific amount of time? Enter a custom duration, choose minutes, hours, or even days, and tap "Start".

Want to keep your sound disabled for an indeterminate amount of time? No worries, just tap the "X" on the dialog. Don't feel like tapping things? (I mean, who has the time, right?) - Just leave it, and the dialog will go away on its own after a little while, so you aren't confronted with it the next time you turn on your screen.

NOTE: After first installing Silent Mode Timer, make sure to open the app, and toggle it "On". You can turn it off at any time, but the first time you enable it, it will ask for permission to manage your ringer settings. This is a necessary permission for the app to run.
This app does not have or request access to your call logs, or anything else weird like that. No personal or advertising data is sent over the internet, and none of your data will be collected or used for marketing purposes (or anything else like that).

Silent Mode Timer is completely ad-free, and costs nothing.
